The submission of the wrong type of application or more than one application will significantly delay the review of your application.


You should apply to UDC as a Non-Degree Applicant only if ALL of the following conditions apply:

  • You are not seeking a degree from UDC
  • You are not seeking financial aid from UDC
  • You are NOT on an F-1 or J-1 Visa (EXCEPTION: You will/have graduated from UDC with a bachelor’s degree within the past academic year and are awaiting acceptance to a graduate degree program).
  • You have graduated from high school

Certificate program applicants must apply as a non-degree-seeking applicant.

Requirements

Non-degree applicants are required to submit ALL of the following for admission:

  • Completed online application for Non-Degree Applicants
  • Non-refundable $35.00 application fee or the applicable non-refundable graduate WebAdMIT application fee (currently waived). UDC graduate application fee of $50 is waived.

Graduate Applicant

Official college transcript(s) reflecting date of graduation from an accredited Bachelor's degree program

You should apply to UDC as a Graduate Degree Applicant only if ALL of the following conditions apply:

  • You are seeking a Graduate degree
  • You have earned a Bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution

  • You are seeking an Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate degree
  • You were previously enrolled at UDC as a degree-seeking student
  • You have not been enrolled in courses at UDC for two or more subsequent semesters (excluding summer) for any reason
  • Suspended for academic or non-academic reasons,
  • Completed a total withdrawal regardless of when the total withdrawal occurred

Requirements

Re-admit applicants are required to submit ALL of the following for admission:

If you received Financial Aid during your previous attendance, please check with the Financial Aid Office for any updates to your eligibility, as

Federal Financial Aid regulations have changed.

If you left UDC owing a tuition balance, please check with Student Accounts for Financial Clearance.

Readmitted Students with prior financial balances must pay all financial obligations in order to register for classes.

Doctoral Applicant only if ALL of the following conditions apply:

  • You are seeking a Doctoral degree
  • You have earned a Graduate degree from an accredited postsecondary institution

Requirements

Doctoral degree applicants are required to submit all of the following for admission:

  • Completed online application for Doctoral Degree Applicants
  • Official college transcript(s) reflecting all coursework, grades, and date of graduation
  • Send Official Applicable GRE and/or Praxis Core Scores

  • Critical Thinking Writing Sample – Applicants should submit a 500-word essay answering the following questions: What do you see as the most critical urban issue today, and why? What would be your approach to addressing it?

  • To expedite the processing of your application, it is advisable to submit your transcripts through a digital service, such as the National Student Clearinghouse or Parchment.

SPECIAL POPULATIONS


DC Public or Metro Area Public High School Graduates
DCPS Students who enroll at a District Public (or District Public Charter) School or Metro Area public high school or enters the University of the District of Columbia in the fall or spring semester immediately following his or her high school graduation and has an official high school transcript with his or her current District or Metro Area address noted on their transcript are exempt from steps 1-3.  However, if a student does not enroll the fall or spring semester after graduation student must adhere to steps 1-3 as outlined above.
District Government Employee
This policy applies only to students who are current employees of the District of Columbia government, and who are actively engaged in agency-sponsored education and training, and whose enrollment at UDC will enhance their education and training. Such employees who provide the proof noted below qualify for District residency status. Students who meet this qualification must provide two forms of proof. Please submit an employment verification letter and a driver’s license or state-issued ID.
Eligible Non-Citizens
Asylees, Refugees, and Permanent Residents are eligible for District or Metro Area residency rates if valid, unexpired, immigration and proof of residency documents are provided. Please note your eligibility to qualify for reduced tuition starts at least ninety (90) days from the issue date of your green card, with valid proof.
Early Childhood Education (ECE) Associate Degree Program
Students working in community-based, Head Start/Early Head Start, DCPS, and DCPCS in DC working to fulfill the mandate to receive at least an AA degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) by 2023. Students who meet this qualification must provide a signed letter on the employer’s letterhead confirming employment.
DREAMERS
Regardless of federal immigration status, District resident Dreamers who within the previous 10 years, attended high school in the District of Columbia for 3 years, graduated from a high school in the District, or received the equivalent of a high school diploma in the District may be eligible to establish residency. Your high school transcript will serve as verification of residency.

Current DCPS/Charter Dual Enrollment High School Students
No is action required. Your high school transcript provided by your high school counselor and/or dual enrollment coordinator will serve as proof of residency.

Any student who has resided in the District of Columbia or the D.C. Metro area (Prince George’s County or Montgomery County in Maryland or Alexandria County, Arlington County, or Fairfax County in Virginia) for a minimum of 90 days (3 consecutive months) before the start of the student’s enrollment term may apply to change their residency classification. 


To ensure that the residency of students is accurate for tuition assessment and the receipt of financial aid, the Proof of Residency Form and two supporting documents must be submitted no later than the dates noted here.

Re-admit
List the full name of all colleges and universities attended, and you must include College Level Examination Program (CLEP) and College Entrance Exam Board (CEEB) scores.

Official transcripts from all previous college work (except the University of the District of Columbia) must be submitted. Students under current suspension and those who cannot furnish official transcripts because of indebtedness are not eligible to enroll at the University of the District of Columbia.

All transcripts must be official and forwarded directly from the Registrar or prior colleges and/or universities to the University of the District of Columbia, Office of Recruitment and Admissions, 4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Building 39, Room A-12, Washington, DC 2008. Only grades of "C" or better from accreditation institutions may be eligible for transfer.
